Océ Museum collaborates on Computer Aided Design exhibition (January 2026)

Managers & Monkeys in Plaza Vertigo, TU/e

The Eindhoven Architecture Centre presents the exhibition “Managers & Monkeys in Plaza Vertigo,” by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). The exhibition runs from January 29 to March 6, 2026.
The exhibition showcases the crucial impact of CAD (Computer Aided Design) on architecture and design, which has led to the digitalization of architectural and technical design.
The exhibition can be freely visited on workdays during office hours.

For a long time, technical designs were created manually on the drawing board.
Océ supplied wide-format photocopiers to support the designers. These machines operated on the basis of blueprint and diazo print.  The advent of computers challenged engineers to create workstations for the design process.
A first attempt was Sketchpad, introduced by Ivan Sutherland in 1983, the world’s first graphics CAD program.
However, CAD software didn’t break through until the 1980s. Programs like Autodesk made it possible to update drawings in minutes. This increased productivity and reduced the risk of errors. Compatible printer equipment was offered by various manufacturers, including Océ.

Design equipment and printers are on display at the “Managers & Monkeys” exhibition.

The Océ Museum is pleased to participate in the exhibition and has loaned the following Océ machines for the purpose.

  • An Océ G9000 series thermal plotter – the 9035S for A0-size. A product of Océ Graphics.
  • An Océ 9400 – an electrofotographic A0 digital printer/copier/scanner including a LED-printhead.
  • A standalone scanner belonging to the Océ 9400 – also referrd to the Océ 9410.
  • An Océ 5200 – an A0 inkjet-colour plotter based on Canon Bubble Jet-technology..
